COVID-19 Notice
Updated December 6, 2021
We are pleased to inform you that as a result of the CDC's new COVID-19 guidelines (effective May 2021), the governor of the state of Virginia has issued Executive Order 79, effective midnight on May 28, 2021, which has lifted many of the previous restrictions of indoor mask wearing and social distancing for those fully vaccinated. As such, the elders of the church have determined that mask wearing in worship (which was never required by the session, only encouraged) will now be left entirely to the discretion of those attending. The elders continue to encourage everyone to use common-sense preventive measures to restrict the spread of this or any other virus (e.g., washing your hands regularly, using hand sanitizer, avoiding touching surfaces as much as possible, covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, avoiding physical contact with non-family members, etc.). In particular, the elders continue to encourage anyone with a fever or symptoms of COVID-19, or having known exposure to a COVID-19 case in the prior 14 days, to avoid entering the building until you are certain you have not contracted the virus. If you have any doubt about your health or exposure to the virus, we encourage you stay home for the safety of others. In such cases, you are invited to join us by means of our Facebook livestream which can be accessed by clicking here. At present, we only livestream the morning worship service.
In conjunction with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, the elders have likewise determined that Sunday school classes and fellowship meals at the church will resume starting on July 4, 2021. The fellowship meal will be held on the last Sunday of every month, with the exception of December due to the Christmas holiday. On "Fellowship Sundays" there will be a covered-dish meal immediately after the morning worship service. This meal will be followed by Sunday school classes or a hymn sing, and there will be no evening service due to the extended activities earlier in the day. Please note that this cancelation of Sunday evening service only applies to "Fellowship Sundays." Every other Sunday will ordinarily have an evening service.
We give thanks to God for His mercies in bringing about this development which has allowed us to resume Sunday activities to their full extent. We pray that this will continue to the be the case. If anything should change, however, this page of our webiste will be updated for your information. Please join us for public worship as you are able. May the Lord bless and keep you!
The Session of Providence Presbyterian Church (OPC)
I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pastilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will take refuge."
(Psalm 91:2-4)
